so I got into spotify this morning to find out gravity, gryffin's first album came out. i knew something was indeed happening after he released an Ep called: gravity pt. 1 and i think i was actually waiting for something to come out and get released and finally here it is, fresh out to be reviewed.
let's point out that I knew some of the songs before the release of the whole album so the album wasn't a full surprise for me, but i found it still very enjoyable. the songs seem to have a continuity in style (so you don't have crazy style changes) but very pleasant if you love edm of course. i think the album has a true gryffin style and vibe to it. in a few words, i love it!
Now let's analyze the tracklst.
1. INTRO.
IT'S NOT AN ACTUAL SONG BUT IT'S A KICK STARTER AND IT SORTA LINKS TO THE FIRST ACTUAL SONG ITSELF.
2. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW - gRYFFIN & SLANDER WITH CALLE LEHMANN. *
linked to the first song, here is this one. i wasn't really interested at first but after re-hearing it, i came to the conclusion that i adore this song so so much and the video is adorable.
3. Need Your Love - with Seven Lions featuring Noah Kahan.
it's a simple song: there's not much to say about this one other than the fact that Noah Kahan sings beautifully and that i can't really feel the presence of seven lions in this song. anyway, pretty cool song.
4. Tie Me Down - with Elley Duhé. *
i found this song back in 2018 while browsing through spotify's rankings, and as soon as i found familiar names to artists i have heard from before, i was shocked to see him on te global ranking, because i thought he was a smaller artist. by this point you probably have figured out already that i love this song too!
5. Nothing Like You - with Droeloe featuring Hana.
Not a song i liked at first, but i love it now. it's pretty chill and calm.
6. Remember - with Zohara. *
This is a great remembering from my 2019 starting. i heard this song first after saving it from proximity's youtube page and it was love at first sight! btw go follow proximity, great edm everyday is served.
7. Body Back - featuring Maia Wright.
i mean... i love this song but i feel like this leans more to a commercial side. if i was about to listen to it now it would feel repetitive and so commercial to me.
8. Bye Bye - featuring Ivy Adara. *
it took me a while to love this song but it is beautiful. her voice is amazing!
9. If I Left the World - featuring Marina and Model Child.
i adore the vibe of this song: edm but not aggressive. marina's voice ties the song together so well!
10. Out of My Mind - featuring Zohara.
I like this one and not so much at the same time for no clear reason. tell me why!
11. Baggage - with Gorgon City and AlunaGeorge.
it starts one way it finishes the other: i love this twist!
12. Just for a Moment - featuring Iselin Solheim. *
again... i find it beautiful but a bit commercial: i can see myself getting bored of this song really quickly. no offense to anyone.
13. OMG - with Carly Rae Jepsen.
after a long time Carly rae jepsen is back nd her voice sounds different to what i can remember, but not bad at all.
14. You Remind Me - featuring Stanaj. *
a song that i heard lots of time with love. i still love this one after years so not to commercial.
15. Hurt People - with Aloe Blacc.
I don't know why but i don't really like this song. i can't figure out why i don't get along with this one.
16. Nobody Compares to You - featuring Katie Pearlman. *
not my favourite one for sure. maybe it's the lyric that sound a little bit old school maybe not: i don't know.
n0te: the songs with the '*' are songs i have heard before the release of the album.
in the end i feel like this is a pretty good album, simple yet impressive and worth listening, so see you later.
new review will be up soon...👀
